Hi everyone, my name is Dennis Bosher and this is my first blog post. I figured being the first post, I would introduce myself and tell you a little about me.

I was born and raised in Virginia. I have lived in several different parts of the state. I am currently located in Pittsylvania County where I enjoy several hobbies that revolve around photography and video.

I believe my passion for photography started a long time ago. Even before I snapped a single shot. I believe this desire to pause time and capture memories derived from the appreciation of what mother nature has put right in front of our eyes. The natural beauty that surrounds us is something I noticed as a young boy. Whether it was fishing along the river or sitting quietly in a bush while hunting with my step father. The peace of nature drew me in while her beauty cast the spell.

For the longest time I have loved being in the woods. Even if just to take a quiet walk and explore the areas of my world that were seldom experienced. It was this appreciation and curiosity that really piqued my interest, yet that appreciation was the passion at that time. Photography was but a distant yet inevitable step of this evolution of appreciation.

Years go by and while my life is focused on other things the appreciation of natural beauty is always present. Always taking the time to notice the colors created when the sun dips down towards the horizon, or textures on the bark of an old fallen tree. And while I would snap an image from time to time, those images never expressed the true beauty. By trade I was a graphic designer. This would be a huge help as time goes on.

My interest in photography grew, specifically aerial photography. I had this desire to capture beautiful landscapes from a birds prospective. And so my journey into drones began. While looking for drones to capture this vision, I stumbled into another hobby all of it’s own. I found the world of FPV (First Person View) drones. FPV Drones weren’t like your typical drones. They were very fast and they were extremely maneuverable. They would do flips and rolls and could fly like the most aerobatic bird there ever was. And the coolest part was the goggles that offered that first person perspective. The drone had a camera that sent the signal directly to a pair of goggles and it was as if I was flying from the cockpit of the drone itself. These drones had GoPro cameras strapped to them which took some pretty amazing videos. For the time being this is where my passions have led me.

My desire to capture images from a birds perspective led me to the ability to fly, free as a bird. Being able to not only experience the beauty of the word like a bird but to move just as freely. It was mesmerizing and therapeutic. While I was on a bit of a tangent from my initial goal, I was exactly where I needed to be. I began to create videos. I learned to edit, my experience in graphic design even played a big part, Initially they were not that great. But the more I flew the better I got and the videos as well. At first it was the speed and agility that created an adrenaline rush but as years went on I started leaning more towards a relaxed and cinematic style. While the adrenaline was settling, I started to remember how I got there and while it may have taken almost 6 years, we were back on track. My next investment was in a more traditional drone. A GPS drone that could take amazing photos and videos. It was not nearly as fast and agile as my FPV drone but it was much better at capturing the beauty I was seeking. From amazing landscapes to deer feeding in the fields, I was capturing the beauty I had initially set out to capture.

It wasn’t long and I started thinking about monetizing this passion. At first I was thinking only about the drone side of things, but ultimately decided I needed to invest in a decent camera to really cover all of my bases. So I purchased my first Canon camera and pretty much neglected my drones for months. I was already familiar with exposure and composition, I just needed to translate that understanding into using a hand-held camera. I took nearly 10,000 photos within the first month. Practicing as much as possible. I wanted to practice composition, different exposure techniques, editing, I wanted to make certain I could deliver quality results. Again my experience as a graphic designer gave me an edge, I already had plenty of experience in editing imagery and before long friends and family were asking me to take their photos and here we are today. Obsessed with the lens. And while I still put my drones in the air occasionally photography is where my soul has found a home. The drones are just another tool to feed the soul.

There is nothing more important to me than capturing beautiful memories and doing the best I can to refine them in a way that it expresses the beauty of the actual moment. My objective is to capture memories and refine them. Hence the name Refined Memories Photography.

Welcome to my world.
